This splitboard and backcountry course aims to tackle various subjects so you can enjoy exploring the backcountry safely. You’ll meet 6 other like-minded people, and you’ll all learn the right way to explore the backcountry and manage risk.
What we’ll do: There will be both indoor and outdoor activities, field applications, and workshops. Some of the topics we’ll discuss are choosing routes (uphill and downhill), risk management, the logistics behind planning a backcountry tour, etc. You’ll also learn and practice transitions, climbing techniques, and how to use the AVY gear.
Where: The course takes place in the Bucegi mountains, and we’ll spend 2 nights at Mounthoff Retreat (a 4-star hotel). You’ll have a double room with a nice breakfast included.
What you’ll need:
- Splitboard Kit (splitboard + bindings + boots) + collapsible trekking poles
- Avalanche Kit + helmet + phone
- Touring jacket + pants (rainproof)
- Down jacket/fleece/puffer
- Thermos / bottle of water + snacks / power bars
- Goggles + sun glasses + sunscreen
- Off-Piste insurance

- Guide and instructor for the entirety of the course
- 2 nights in a remote, 4-star guesthouse

This ski and backcountry course gives you the starter pack to explore Romania’s backcountry safely and to the fullest. You’ll meet 6 other people that share the same passion for skiing and backcountry. If you’re sick of the same crowded and boring places, this is what you need!
What we’ll do: Some of the topics we’ll discuss are choosing the uphill and downhill routes, choosing the right day to go out, learning how to read the terrain, and managing the risks (lines, team, snow, weather, etc.). You’ll better understand the differences between backcountry skiing and on-piste skiing, different ways of climbing and descending, and how to properly use the AVY gear. By the end, you’ll be more confident in your skillset every time you go out in the backcountry.
Where: The course takes place in Fagaras Mountains. We’ll spend 2 nights at Balea Lac Chalet, in double rooms and with breakfast included.

- Ski touring equipment
- AVY kit
- Helmet + skiing goggles + sun glasses + sunscreen
- Touring jacket + pants (rainproof)
- Down jacket/fleece/puffer
- Thermos/bottle of water + snacks/power bars

Although it was a really poor winter the guide always delivered untouched pow lines and everyone was very happy. In this trip I really learned the meaning of earning each and every turn.
