Easter Alpine Ski Mission

Open Nav

A new Easter concept! Family bonding whilst skinning and riding steep alpine valleys.

Two glorious days happened with our most recent clients, a very cool trio of a father and two sons. As we all noticed in the past weeks, winter is holding on for dear life and bless her for that!

With plenty of snow, our two day ski/split tour started of at Padina, making our way through Ialomitei Valley up to Omu peak (2505m).
More of a crosscountry skinning trail than anything else, reaching the highest point in this mtn. range (Omu peak) is an accesible goal.

Check out this link for more info about the impressive landmark that is Omu peak.

With only a few spot where side hilling is a virtue, the rest is quite easy to handle. However, the view from the top is really something else.
The entire range opens up and you can even single out some of the best backcountry spots: Gaura valley, Cerbului valley, Mălăiești valley, Bucșoiu peak, Acele Morarului, Hornurile Mălăiești, Coștila and the list goes on…

Our ascent started miday and temperatures were really picking up so we did experience some serious heat. The upside to this is that riding down at around 6 PM means that the snow is colder and in our case actually pretty smooth and flowy.

We made our way back down through Ialomiței valley, riding along the imposing Mecetul Turcesc and shredding through Ialomiței waterfall. Since the snow was gettin’ cooler and cooler we managed to slide all the way down to our car, a real treat in spring conditions.

Our next day was about stepping up a notch. We took the cable car from Padina to Babele and found a very cool couloir type of feature in the terrain that took us right into Șugari valley. So we made our way down to Padina again and back up to Babele. However this time we had bigger fish to fry. We skinned up to Coștila and rode down one of the coolest alpine lines, Mălin valley.

This area, named the “Prahova Steep”, encompasses these incredible valleys, including Mălin. Here’s a quick read!

Snow was in abundance so some of the trickier spots that you can usually find in this valley were completely covered so we got to ride the entire thing in one go.

It is probably one of the lenghthiest features to ride in Romania. At around 1000 meters long, it’s found in amazing rocky and steep alpine terrain and it delivers breathtaking views.

Check out some of our cool objectives by glancing on our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Website). We post all our tours so there’s plenty to see! 🙂

We made our way down to Diham, got a cab to take us to the cable car in Bușteni and…you guessed it, back up to Babele. Found the same couloir/channel type of feature that we rode in the first part of the day and we followed our own lines back to the car. Funnily enough, right when we reached the parking spot it started to rain, first drops of water in two days of perfect weather.

Super stoked about the really good tour, with perfect conditions and two major backcountry objectives checked.
Now it’s time for the real eastern european challenge, eating the entire menu on Easter day with your family. Good luck everyone!
